Club History

Costal Plains Amateur Radio Club (CPARC) members are involved in all areas of the Amateur Radio Hobby, with priority given to being prepared to help the surrounding Community during an Emergency or Natural Disaster.  We have an active group of Emergency Coordinators (EC's) and Assistant EC's who work hard to make certain CPARC is ready should our capabilities be called on by community officials.  The involvement of CPARC members make the job of our EC's and the EC program much easier.  CPARC is known though out the State of Georgia as the club where members are like family.

In 1978 a group of Amateur Radio Operators who were studying together for their upgrades, decided to start a Radio Club in this area.  The first objective of the newly formed club was to install a repeater to help fill the void of repeater coverage on Interstate 75.  At the time the nearest repeaters were in Warner Robins to the North, Albany to the West, and Valdosta to the South.  The new club members worked hard to bring a repeater online to fill this communications void for the Interstate travelers.

Over the years these original members have updated and upgraded the repeater system, continuously improving its coverage area as well as its capabilities.  Along with the improvements made to the repeater over the years,  CPARC members have been involved in all areas of the hobby.  At various times, classes were conducted, bringing new operators into our great hobby.  Along with the classes, our members have elmered individuals, one on one, bringing new operators into the hobby and club as well.

W4PVW Mr. Don Dasher

Here is a picture of Mr Don Dasher W4PVW, an original founding member of Coastal Plains Amateur Radio Club. This is W4PVW in his shack in Ashburn. He helped all the early members of CPARC as the started in Amateur Radio until his untimely death. Mr Don was an avid and proficient CW operator. He was a CW operator in the Navy and always set the example of good operating procedures to those Amateur operators who knew him.

New members will hear many great stories about this friend to all.

Here is a great picture of W4PVW at the base of his tower outside his shack. The picture was taken by Greg W4GHW I think. Greg had probably been up the tower working on the antenna's.
