Crank up / Tilt Over
THE BEGINNING
This is really not the beginning, but
digging the hole is. I figured that was not very photogenic so I
jumped to the hole already dug and spare you of all the sweat and
blisters.
Now the water is all we have to contend with. As you might tell
we had a lot of rain while I was doing this as well as being near the
pond and the water table is high.
I started trying to keep the water out with one of these
small pumps but it would not keep up with the water coming in. So, I got
another and both did a fair job of keeping the water out enough to dig.
Later as you will see I had to get a larger pump to pour the concrete.
This is the Rebar Cage that I build to go into the hole to
reinforce the concrete.
The vertical rebar rods are 1 1/8th " steel
forming a 3' square cage. The horizontal elements are 1/2" rebar
spaced 1 foot apart and doubled on the top run.
The Rebar Cage being placed into the hole. Weight approx.
232 pounds.
Operator Napping
Rebar Cage into hole with my 80 year old Dad's assistance
and direction.
Rebar Cage in place with water rising.
In this picture the forms are in place for the cement base
as well as to hold the anchor bolts in place so the concrete would not
move them out of alignment. To keep the alignment I bolted the steel
base of the tower to forms.
Still Pumping Water, this time with a
larger pump.
Birds eye view of everything in place and water pumped
out. This is just prior to the cement truck arriving with 6 cubic
yards of concrete to fill up the hole I had worked so hard to make.
No time for pictures during the pouring of the concrete.
This is after the pour and a rough finishing of the top.
Finished base, still very green concrete and ready for
another wait. The concrete has to cure for at least 30 days to
reach full strength.
Curing process in progress. Wait, wait, wait.
Forms removed after about a week and wait some more.
Raising Fixture installed. This raises the tilt over
part of the tower from the ground to vertical position.
Tower laid in place. Getting Close.
Tower going UP.
And UP.
Finally. Tower up in place waiting on antennas and to be
cranked up to height.
This is what all that work and dollars was for.
Success.
Final Results.
I am satisfied with the installation and it went pretty much as
planned.
