HOW TO BECOME A HAM OPERATOR and UPGRADE How do I get my own Amateur Radio License? You will need to be in touch with someone who can help guide you as you study for you first Amateur Radio license. The entry level license is the Technician class and does not require learning Morse code. Anyone visiting our web pages who want to get your Amateur Radio License re invited to email our webmaster or club president. If you are in our area, visiting a club meeting is a great place to start. We will help you get in touch with a local club if you from outside our area. First you should get the book Now Your Talking published by the ARRL. This book has everything you need to study and pass your first license exam. You will be required to pass a 35 question multiple choice exam. This exam covers basic regulations, operating practices, and electronics theory, with a focus on VHF and UHF applications. More... It is good to have an Amateur Radio Elmer or volunteer helper to help you with you preparation for the exam. The local Amateur Radio Club is the perfect place to meet active Amateur Radio Operators who can help you in preparation for your exam.
Practice Your CW with W1AW - They have a daily schedule at different speed levels to help your code proficiency after you have learned the characters. Look up an ARRL Exam Session scheduled in your area. Area clubs in south Georgia can sometime schedule a session for those who are read to take the test. Practice FCC Test. You can take practice tests for Technician, General, and Extra Class licenses from the FCC question pool.
