South Georgia's Linked Repeater System

The Tall Pine Intertie or (T.P.I.) is a system that involves the linking of several individual repeater systems into one large unified system.

The primary purpose of the T.P.I. is to enhance Emergency, Skywarn, and general Amateur Radio communications in the immediate South Georgia area.

By utilizing linking technology, T.P.I. provides excellent coverage of a good portion of South Central Georgia area and good usable coverage into surrounding regions.

The T.P.I. utilizes UHF frequencies to link member repeaters together which provides greater coverage over the South Georgia area. T.P.I. gives users that are operating with handheld and mobile radios coverage abilities they have never had before.

The South Georgia Radio Association (S.G.R.A.) is the primary sponsor for the Tall Pine Intertie. The S.G.R.A. directly sponsors the T.P.I. Linking System and a hand full of member (WR4SG) repeater systems. Amateur Radio groups or individual Amateur Radio operators sponsor the remainder of member repeater systems.

We would like to invite you if you are not already a supporter of the S.G.R.A. and the T.P.I. to become one and help support our on going effort to enhance and promote Amateur Radio in the South Georgia area. The existence of Amateur Radio is based primarily on its ability to provide communications in an event of a local, state, or national emergency. We hope we will not be needed - but we will be ready if called upon.

Tall Pine Intertie USER Information:

The T.P.I. is very user friendly. No special access codes are necessary for normal users to operate on the system.  All an operator needs to do is check the member repeater listing and tune his or her radio to that repeater for their area.  Just like one would do to access the local repeater.  Once one starts communicating via the member repeater they are now being heard on every other member repeater in the system.   It just that simple!

All member repeaters operate normally with the CTCSS encoder/decoder in the active mode. The present "PL" tone frequency is 141.3 Hz. The "PL" is necessary due to increased band congestion over the last few years. The "PL" Decoder may be turned off for Nets and association events but the Encoder is always on to help local operators "tune-out" non-local repeater systems during band openings. The CTCSS bypass code is normally "123" for member repeater systems using the CAT-1000 repeater controller.


Operating Practices to remember when using the TPI system....

Listen before using the system....Others may be already be engaged in communicatons.

Always be courtous to others... Manners and encouragment go a long way.

Be mindful of what you say over the system....Other operators and non-amateurs ARE listening.

Have Thick skin toward other operator's words or deeds... Others are not as perfect as you are.

Work to Obey all F.C.C. rules and regulations regarding Amateur Radio when operating.

Tall Pine Intertie Technical Information:

The T.P.I  system consists of UHF repeater called a "Hub Repeater."    The sole purpose of the Hub repeater is to receive and to rebroadcast voice transmission for and to member remember systems.  The member repeater systems are able to be connected to the Hub repeater via a UHF link transceiver.  The transceiver is connected directly to the member repeaters repeater controller.  As the repeater is used voice information is sent to the Hub repeater via the link transceiver.  The Hub repeater rebroadcasts the voice to other member repeater systems. The voice information is then copied by operators within range of each of the member repeater systems.

The Hub repeater is able to link repeater systems that are up to 60 miles away from it to other repeater systems with in the coverage area.  As a example if two repeater systems are 60 miles from the Hub repeater in opposite directions and also assume that the repeater systems had a 30 mile coverage range.  It then would be possible for operators over 180 miles from each other to communicated with each other via the link system.  The range can be father extended by linking Hub repeater systems together to make even a larger network.

Member Repeater Technical Information:

The 145.130 (Valdosta) repeater consists of a Hamtronics brand exciter and receiver. The RF driver amplifier is a Ramsey 15-watt unit, which drives a commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 100 watts into a set of DB Products cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by an Astron 50-amp power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller.

The 145.230 (Cordele) repeater consists of a Hamtronics brand exciter and receiver. The RF driver amplifier is a Ramsey 15-watt unit, which drives a commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 100 watts into a set of DB Products cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by an Astron 50-amp power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller.

The 145.310 (Nashville) repeater consists of a Motorola MSF 5000 exciter and receiver. The amplifier is a Motorola commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 100 watts into a set of Sinclair cavities. The antenna system is a single TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antenna. Repeater power is provided by a Motorola base station power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a Motorola MSF 5000 repeater controller.

The 147.135 (Lake Park) repeater consists of a Hamtronics brand exciter and receiver. The RF driver amplifier is a Ramsey 15-watt unit, which drives a commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 100 watts into a set of DB Products cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing Comet multi-band antennas. Repeater power is provided by an Astron 50-amp power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller.

The 147.165 (Douglas) repeater consists of a GE Master II exciter and receiver. The amplifier is a GE commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 70 watts into a set of Sinclair cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by a GE base station power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-200 repeater controller.

The 147.225 (Dorun) repeater consists of a GE Master II exciter and receiver. The amplifier is a GE commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 70 watts into a set of Sinclair cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by a GE base station power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-200 repeater controller.

The 147.255 (Waycross) repeater consists of a GE Master II exciter and receiver. The amplifier is a GE commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 70 watts into a set of TX/RX cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by a GE base station power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller.

The 147.285 (Ashburn/Tifton) repeater consists of a GE Master II exciter and receiver. The amplifier is a GE commercial grade high power RF amplifier giving an output of 70 watts into a set of Wacom cavities. The antenna system is a dual TX/RX configuration utilizing DB Products multi-dipole antennas. Repeater power is provided by a GE base station power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller. The repeater is located near Chula, North of Tifton.

The 444.350 (Valdosta) repeater consists of a Hamtronics brand exciter/driver and receiver. The RF power amplifier is a commercial grade unit operating at approximately 100 watts input to the DB Products cavities. The antenna system is a commercial grade Phelps Dodge multi-dipole array antenna. Repeater power is provided by an Astron 50-amp power supply in conjunction with a 100-amp hour battery backup bank. The "brains" of the repeater is a CAT-1000 repeater controller with a Remote base Interface for controlling transceivers on the following bands: 10 Meter (29.600 MHz), 6 Meter (52.525), 2M, 1 1/4M, and 70cm.
