VHF OPERATING

Six meters is a vhf band that has captured several members attention. For those in south Georgia who are in simplex range of the Tifton, Ashburn area, you may contact members on 146.520. Members use the simplex frequency to coordinate when there are band openings on 6 and 2 meters. Coastal Plains members are using the DX Cluster network to learn of 6 meter and 2 meter activity. On  Tuesday nights our group gets on 50.150 about 9:30pm.

6 METERS

2 METERS

 PROPAGATION

Are you a long time ham  operator who never considered the 6 meter band? Perhaps your a new  ham with vhf only privileges and have never been told of the  meter activity. The band is not open every day, and not lots of long contacts during the winter months.

It is a fun and exciting band when conditions are right. You can have lots of fun collecting grid square numbers toward the VUCC Award. When 6  meters also known as 50 mhz is open, there is no need for elaborate antennas. A dipole can provide lots of contacts during the 6 meter season..

Many newer rigs today have the 6 meter or 50 mhz in them. Spring will bring about a new flurry of activity on 6 meters. The Coastal Plains ARC 6 meter operators invite you to get your station ready and join us.

Coastal Plains Amateur Radio Club Members, already active on FM, are working on their stations to activate EM81 on SSB on 144 mhz and 440 mhz. W4GHW and K4KV have antennas up on 144 mhz horizontal. and making good contacts.

We have had a great program by K4KV on building vhf and uhf beams. I'm sure with the interest, there will be more and perhaps a Saturday workshop on antennas.
